De Wizard nebula, oftewel De Tovenaarsnevel, wordt zo genoemd vanwege de opvallende vorm, maar daar moet je wel veel fantasie voor hebben. De door de Gaia satelliet gemeten parallax van de bijbehorende sterrenhoop wijst op een afstand van 9600 tot 10.200 lichtjaar in de Perseusarm van onze Melkweg. De leeftijd is 5 miljoen jaar jong. De jongste sterren zijn zelfs minder dan een half miljoen jaar oud.
